within all related by blood and bond there are similarities
and differences, subtle details that those close can discern. representing
these differences as family would see, I have used colour to portray the lineage
along with portraiture, how the faces of two children are like two shades of
purple created by red and blue. to represent this I have used a white sheet in
which I have spray painted portraits and overlaid them with thread, the colours
are the personality and lineage combined, with a red for self-assurance and
pride, along with blue for compassion and selflessness, from those is spirit, an
unyielding freedom from which many more shades are possible. with each generation
the hue changes, sometimes more from the mother, or sometimes more from the
father, perhaps even having an equal share of both, and from that rarely anyone
is the same amongst this prismatic show of individuality and bond. process

with a lot of my work, complexity seems to be a major part, however with this piece I hope to keep that to a minimum to enable to make the solid colours the main focus, along with features. to achieve this I have used spray paint and thread, the spray paint was applied using two overlapping stencils to create a triple tone image consisting of a dark colour, a lighter variant and white allowing for tone and shade to created, to achieve this effect I used two stencils layered over each other, the top consisting of where the darkest tones are to be applied in which it is later removed to a stencil consisting of where the lighter tones should be, thus creating a tri toned image. for the purple image I used a combination of blue and red, the issue with this however is that impossible to create the same shade of purple throughout the image. after completing the painting I used my home sewing machine to outline the images to add more form, especially to the images that are harder to interperate.
