Debbie Smyth

Often uses large scale installation

A British artists that is most famous for her works using nails linked in colour by threads, each of her works take hours or even days to complete because of the intricacy involved however the final outcomes are more than worth the time taken as it shows. the subjects within her work can vary massively with many of her works being paid commissions as her work has become very desirable for many different individuals and companies.

” I feel as if I am taking thread out of its comfort zone, presenting it on monumental scale and creating an eye-catching, and in some case jaw dropping effect”

the largest aspect of her work would be the use of layering to create different effects

Harriet popham

Freehand sewing

I was drawn to this artist mostly because she uses line and form to define her work in which she creates the outline and structure with a single colour, however an aspect which is dissimilar is that she uses loose thread as part of her work, juxtaposing with the neatness of her work. the use of loose thread not only challenges the neatness of the work, it also adds another dimension from it, allowing to be brought out and manipulated, it may connect two separate works or run off the frame, ebbing into a reality that isn’t flexible and soft to the touch. another interesting signature of Popham’s is her use embroidery loops
